Port Contracts with Two Firms for Assistance in Ferry System, Railway Extension Project

Body
At their April 13 meeting, Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District (PPHTD) commissioners unanimously approved two resolutions that will expand the port’s ability to handle the needs of the ferry system and, unexpectedly, the railway extension and container terminal projects as well. The resolutions in question were not originally placed on the agenda and required a suspension of the rules to be discussed and passed at the April 13 meeting. One of the resolutions contracted the engineering firm Lanier & Associates for consulting on the container terminal’s development and the other contracted Infinity Engineering for consultation on the ferry system and railway extension. Executive director Charles Tillotson explained that the exact terms of each deal hasn’t been laid out yet. But he stated they will be structured on an as needed basis and require additional funding approval from the commissioners.

_e list of crops that tolerate and thrive in hot weather is a short one, but eggplant belongs square on the top of the list. A native of the far East, it thrives in the summer months of Louisiana and adds a vegetable to our plates during the challenging warm season when other crops are not producing. A member of the Solanaceae or nightshade family, it is a cousin to tomatoes and peppers.Oneofthemostcommon problems in eggplant is stunted growth when they are planted too early. Growth slows or stops all together unless average temperatures are above 70 degrees F. Mid to late March and into April is the prime time to set transplants out. Start seeds indoors, under lights or in a greenhouse 8 to 10 weeks before your desired planting date. Eggplants should produce through early summer, take a small break during the hottest part of the summer, and produce more during the fall.
