Oneofthemosthatedsummertime weedy vines in Louisiana is the bushkiller vine, Cayratia japonica. Sometimes called “sorrel vine” and often confused for Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) and poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans), bushkiller vine can be found increasingly throughout the southeastern part of Louisiana. It is an invasive species that is native to southeast Asia, and it can be found in Texas and California in addition to Louisiana. It is a high climbing, smothering vine that can quickly cover a fence line, young trees, shrubs, and garden plants if left unchecked.

Plaquemines Set to Participate in Busy 2023 Gubernatorial Election

Plaquemines Parish is just a few weeks away from an impactful election season. While the fall 2023 general election—which is scheduled for October 14—will feature some races for local o_ces, there are also numerous state races which will be on the ballot. In total, parish residents will have the opportunity to vote for 19 separate government positions, ranging from Louisiana Governor to Justice of the Peace.

Bring your lawn chairs and come celebrate Independence Day on the 5th of July for the 5th District at Medal of Honor Park, 1292 Barriere Road, Belle Chasse. Hinkey Looks for Long-term Solutions to Saltwater Intrusion

Ever since the Plaquemines Parish Government (PPG) issued a drinking water drinking advisory—and a parish state of emergency—from the Empire Bridge to Venice area due to a “saltwater wedge” pushing into the Boothville water system on June 21, parish president Keith Hinkley and his administration have been working diligently to address the problem. In an interview, Hinkley explained that, working in tandem with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Governor’s O_ce of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), the parish government is pursuing two potential solutions.
