It looks like playing baseball is in the blood for the Flair family, as Belle Chasse High School senior Nick Flair follows in his grandfather, Al Flair’s athletic footsteps.
Al played for the New Orleans Pelicans minor league baseball team, before signing on to the major league with the Boston Red Sox.
His grandson, Nick recently signed on to play college baseball for Louisiana State University – Eunice in front of friends, family and fans on Signing Day.
Though Al passed away before Nick was born, he is still a part of his grandson’s life.
“Some of his friends were [at Signing Day], as well,” said Nick. “That made is pretty special.”
The third baseman for the Cardinals hit a .411 in 2010, and went to the Class 4A state championship game with the Cardinals last year.
“I heard a lot of good things about [Eunice],” Nick said. “I’m not developed enough to go to a Division 1 school, yet.”
Nick’s next game with BCHS will be against the Lakeshore Titans on March 10, 3:30 p.m. at the Harahan Playground.
