B. C. Garden Club celebrates Arbor Day

Feb 8th, 2011 | By | Category: community

Celebrating Arbor Day is an annual function for the Belle Chasse Garden Club and one of the many civic things they do for the community. This years celebration was held at the Medal of Honor Park in Belle Chasse with Barbara Nezat and Irene Delcambre acting as co-chairladies for the event.

The Civic Beautification Association of garden clubs chose Plaquemines Parish this year as the parish to receive a monetary donation toward the tree. Gail Lonibos, president of CBA along with other members of her group joined the B.C. Garden Club on January 20th for the gathering at the park. History of Arbor Day was read as well as poems. Members gathered around a lovely Live Oak tree that was planted by Jody Coyne, the park’s designer.

This year’s tree was dedicated in memory of Murray Naquin who was one of the original founders and director of the park until his death.
