Belle Chasse Primary School participated in the fifth annual World Sport Stacking Association’s STACK UP!! on Thursday, Nov. 18. The Association is attempting to set a new record for “Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations in One Day” in the Guinness Book of World Records. During the course of the day, each sport stacker was up-stacking and down-stacking various pyramids in prescribed patterns at lightning speed for at least 30 minutes. For the fifth year in a row, Guinness World Records has billed this as the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event.”

Sport stacking has been termed a “track meet for your hands at warp speed.” It is an exciting sport where students up-stack and down-stack 12 specially designed cups called Speed Stacks in predetermined sequences as fast as they can.

Last year, 276,053 stackers participated to break the previous year’s STACK UP!! record. Once again, this record will be broken as 302,230 stackers were registered to participate. Two hundred students at BCP took part in the STACK UP!! as part of PE classes that day.

According to Bob Fox, WSSA Founder and CEO, the Guinness event is a wonderful way to bring together sport stackers across the globe. “Sport stacking is an activity enjoyed by all ages and cultures. It promotes hand-eye coordination, fitness, teamwork, speed and lots of fun.” Benefits include improved reaction time, concentration, and focus. The WSSA is the governing body for sport stacking and promotes Stack Meets, Leagues, and Tournaments around the world. Speed Stacks is the official equipment supplier to the WSSA.
