Oil collection still on pace in heavily inundated areas

Nearly three months after the BP oil well was killed, oil cleanup crews in Plaquemines Parish working seven days a week, weather permitting, have been removing significant amounts of oil from the most inundated areas.
The Inland Waterways Strike Force collected 37,275 gallons of oil/water mix from Bay Jimmy in Plaquemines Parish over the past eleven days.
The Inland Waterways Strike Force has teams collecting oil each day in Bay Jimmy, Southeast Pass, Southwest Pass, Bay Baptiste and Bay Long.
The Mule teams (or beach crews) picked up 10,244 bags of oily waste and tar balls from the beaches at Southwest Pass, Southeast Pass and Pass Chaland.
These figures are from Sept. 30 – Oct. 11 with operations shut down for a day and a half due to weather conditions during that time period.
