Prom of Champions: BC teen collects 76 prom dresses for Children’s Hospital
Mar 5th, 2013 | By Jessica Gonzalez | Category: communityWith prom season right around the corner, one local Belle Chasse resident finds herself consumed by “the dress.” Seventeen-year-old Brooke Michelle Rosser will not only be attending her own school prom, but the Prom of Champions as well. Prom of Champions is put on by Children’s Hospital of New Orleans for patients battling cancer and blood disorders.
Brooke was asked to this prom by her friend, who fought and won his own battle with cancer when he was just six-years-old. After doing a little research, she learned that every girl attending the Prom of Champions will have the opportunity to pick out a dress, and will even have both hair and makeup appointments scheduled for them, free of charge. Not only was she excited to pick her own dress, but she was as eager to have the opportunity to help furnish dresses for other girls to choose from also.
It was at this moment that Brooke felt the overwhelming calling to assemble her own prom dress collection that she would donate to Children’s Hospital for the Prom of Champions. On February 22, Brooke donated 76 prom dresses to Children’s Hospital for the cause! She is pictured above with the collection. Brooke is the daughter of Rickey Rosser and Jaime Koenig. She is the President of her local CYO at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Belle Chasse, where she is instrumental in coordinating many service and spiritual activities for her community. Brooke is a junior at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans, where she maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.8.
