School Board celebrates Students of the Year
Feb 18th, 2013 | By Jessica Gonzalez | Category: top storyThe 2013 Plaquemines Parish Students of the Year were honored at the February 4 School Board meeting.
Fifth, eighth, and twelfth grade Students of the Year from the five Plaquemines Parish schools competed on December 11, at the Woodland Central Office for the parish titles.
The 2013 Parishwide Students of the Year are Peyton Pipher, a fifth grader at Belle Chasse Middle School; Zachary Clark, an eighth grader from Belle Chasse Middle;
and José Sylve, a senior at South Plaquemines High School.
To even be eligible for the Student of the Year title, a candidate must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, said PPSB Curriculum Coordinator Laurie Carlton. Recognitions
and awards, as well as evidence of leadership and community service are also deciding
factors. As part of the competition at the district level, students present an academic portfolio, write an impromptu composition, and are interviewed by a panel of five judges. The three parish winners will go on to compete for the regional title on March 6, in St. Mary’s Parish.
