World War II Comes to Plaq Historical Assoc.
May 30th, 2012 | By Terri Sercovich | Category: newsThe World War II Museum “A Team” will be guest speakers at the Tuesday, June 5, Plaquemines Parish Historical Association meeting at the Belle Chasse American Legion Hall, 103 Hunt Street. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and the public is invited.
The “A Team” recognizes, commemorates and celebrates the American Spirit of optimism, teamwork,courage and sacrifice. Two celebrated World War II heroes, one from the European theatre and one from the Pacific theatre, will give an intergrated presentation hosted by Ronald Abboud, U.S. Air Force, 159th Fighter Group, Louisiana Air National Guard. Abboud will also manage the audiovisual presentations, artifacts and handouts. The two WWII speakers are:
• Thomas Blakey, is a combat veteran Army paratrooper who parachuted behind Nazi lines on D-Day with the 82nd Airborne. He saw combat action across France to Holland. He will talk about the European campaign focusing heavily on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge that he fought in.
• Bert Stolier is a U.S. Marines combat veteran who was stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He observed the Doolittle Raiders, island hopped from Guadalcanal, Tarawa and Iwo Jima. He was aboard the USS Northampton when it was sunk by the Japanese and eventually made it to Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945 for the surrender.
Blakey, Stolier and Abboud will provide enlightening information, visuals, artifacts and handouts coordinated through the support of the WWII museum. Come out to support our veterans!
