Signature signing day for college bound high school athletes was on February 1, and five local players all signed on the dotted line of their respective letters of intent.

At Belle Chasse High, student athletes Quadry Antoine, Asphenn Gaines, Farron Jones and Marcel Thompson took part in the event held nationwide. South Plaquemines High School senior Lorne Barthelemy also participated in National Signing Day, and was one of the three students from Plaquemines committing to Langston University.

Belle Chasse’s new head football coach Clint Harrison spoke highly of all the athletes moving on from the school’s program, and believes his players are ready for the challenges that await, both academically and athletically.

“I’m extremely excited for them,” Harrison said. “As a coaching staff, it’s our job to prepare them to take that next step, and they are ready.”

Quadry Antoine, who is heading off to Mississippi State’s football program, says he is ready to play at the next level, in the SEC.

“It’s a great honor to be able to play in the SEC, and to play for one of the most prestigious programs in the nation,” Antoine said. “I’ll be working out and staying healthy this summer, so I can show the SEC what I can do.”

Lorne Barthelemy, Asphenn Gaines and Farron Jones all signed with Langston University, and Belle Chasse student Marcel Thompson is heading to Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU).

“I feel real good,” Gaines said. “I’m just gonna make every moment count there.”

“All I can say is God is good, and I’d like to thank Him for everything,” Thompson said. “And my beautiful mother, and all my coaches, from the bottom of my heart. They gave me the chance to play football.”
