Heitmeier urges changes to improve traffic flow
Dec 8th, 2011 | By William Dilella | Category: newsA comment period on proposed governance changes to improve traffic flow in the operation of the Belle Chasse Bridge began on November 30, 2011, and will continue through January 31, 2012.
In addition to written comments from both marine and vehicular users of the bridge, the comment period will include a trial alteration in the schedule for bridge openings. From December 15, 2011, to January 17, 2012, the bridge will not open for marine traffic from 6:30 am to 9 am and in the afternoon from 3:30 pm to 6 pm. This represents an additional 30 minutes of unrestricted use by automobile traffic both in the morning and afternoon.
State Senator David R. Heitmeier requested the change after meeting with parish officials and hearing numerous concerns from constituents about traffic issues in Belle Chasse. Comments should be addressed to Chief David Frank, Bridge Administration Branch of the U.S. Coast Guard, 500 Poydras St. Rm 1313, New Orleans, LA 70130. Additional details about the proposed changes will appear in next week’s edition of The Plaquemines Gazette.
