• Sweden Ledet of Belle Chasse was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Ledet was initiated at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Ledet is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

South Plaq. Elementary School Beta Club Participates in State Competition

National Beta members from South Plaquemines Elementary School are celebrating their recent participation in the Louisiana Elementary and Junior Beta State Convention at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. They were announced as the first place winners of the Club Trading Pin competition for the Elementary Division and the third place winners of the Apparel Design competition for the Junior Division.

THE VOICE OF THE OILERS: BVES Holds Winter Formal

On January 26, Boothville-Venice Elementary School (BVES) hosted its Annual Winter Formal. Students dressed up to enjoy a fun night filled with music and snacks! The students enjoyed an amazing night dancing and hanging out with their friends. This event was hosted by our sixth grade teachers Ms. Wilson and Mrs. Williams to help raise funds for the annual sixth grade end of the year program, which will take place in May. Overall, this event turned out to be a fun and successful night that BVES students will remember for a long time.

Families Invited to AgMagic on the River on March 23

The LSU AgCenter's AgMagic is an interactive, visually stimulating, educational experience for young children and their families. Kids will learn about the important connections between agriculture, the environment, and their lives. The event is free and open to the public on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Docville Farm, 5124 E. St. Bernard Hwy., Violet (St. Bernard Parish).

Success With Sweet Corn With everyone talking about the price of crawfish these days, lets talk about one of the other components of a traditional boil– sweet corn! While most folks grab a big bag of frozen ears from the grocery to throw in, if you want to take things to the next level, its hard to beat fresh picked local sweet corn. It can be grown in our area and used to be more common in the days of truck farming.
