Poinsettias (Euphorbia pulcherrima) is the single largest horticultural crop grown in the United States thanks in large part to their wide popularity at Christmastime. Poinsettias were rst introduced to the United States from their native Mexico in the mid-1800’s. Over the years, they have been extensively hybridized and many colors, variegations, and sizes are available for us to enjoy. At the local garden centers, a wide assortment of potted poinsettias are available. Many of the new cultivars are bred for extended post-harvest longevity, meaning they stay attractive and colorful indoors or out as a part of our holiday displays.
