Since another Christmas is in the books, I thought I’d look back and try to understand how we got here, sort of a partial history of Christmas today (or last Monday) in America. In the beginning, America was not a Christmas place.

We are about to celebrate New Year 2024. Generally, we experience joy as we look forward to the coming year and dream of the advantages and opportunities it will bring.

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I always do. A New Year always brings with it promise and uncertainty, but this coming year brings with it a greater foreboding than we have experienced in the past. The Chinese have a saying: “May you live in interesting times.” But their definition means dangerous or turbulent. We in Louisiana and throughout America certainly live in “interesting” times today.

A huge thank you to Sheriff Turlich and his team for TOYS for Smiles. Members of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office came to deliver toys to every girl and boy in the Boothville-Venice Elementary School Headstart and PreK classes. The students were so excited to receive the gifts.
