PS Library Extension funds moved to Braithwaite levees

Residents and the Plaquemines Parish Council alike weathered through a fiery debate over the shifting of funds from a Port Sulphur library extension project to an Eastbank levee project at a special council meeting April 2. After an hour-and-a-half of accusations of racism, lying, and parish mismanagement, the council decided in a 7-1 vote to move $2 million from the library extension to the rebuilding of an Eastbank back-levee. The alternative would be to forfeit that money entirely. Councilwoman Marla Cooper was not at the meeting.
