PPSO prepares for the worst

It’s a scene straight out of parents’ nightmares. Police officers in bulletproof vests sweep through the halls of Belle Chasse Middle School, checking each room for gunmen and crude bombs. Near the end of one of long red and white halls, a crazed student has holed up in a classroom and taken a hostage. Over the chaotic sounds of scuffling feet and panicked students, the gunman can be heard barking orders at the police to stay back. “Don’t come in here! I’ll shoot him!” he shouts, crouched behind a seated classmate and pointing his AR-15 menacingly. The officers situated outside the door attempt to talk the gunman down.
