This specific exercise prepares for an emergency situation in which the stop log would have to close to protect the parish from incoming storm surge.

Hero Canal Stop Log tested

Plaquemines Parish exercised the Hero Canal Stop Log Structure on April 23, as part of operation and maintenance requirements from the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) and the Army Corps of Engineers. The parish is required to exercise specific flood structures to ensure that they are in compliance with the 2014 Hurricane Storm Risk Reduction System (HSRRS). By doing these scheduled routine operation checks, Plaquemines can assure that it will be prepared in the event of a storm or other natural disaster.
