Belle Chasse wrestler wins state championship

Logan Thompson was planning to be one of the brawniest wrestlers in the 195 pound weight class in the Louisiana High School Wrestling State Tournament. He spent the wrestling season counting calories and running dozens of miles to stay in that weight class, but on weigh-in day, he tipped the scale at 197. Instead of being one of the biggest and strongest in the 195 pound class, Thompson was now the most slender of the 220 pounders. Nonetheless, he prevailed. Thompson described his championship opponent, Willie Washington Jr. of Northside High School, as “stockier and more muscular,” but Thompson knew he was more agile than his competitor.
