October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Kawanna Prout of Boothville through her company, Kickin’ it with Kawanna Productions, will honor the cause with several awareness activities.
Prout, a local talk show host on WUPL My54, has participated in the 2012 American Cancer Society Relay for Life. But this year, she has organized the “Kickin’ Cancer” Breast Cancer Walk in honor of her sister, Shawanna Prout, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
The event will take place October 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cypress Park, 499 F. Edward Herbert Blvd., Belle Chasse.
The walk will be a family oriented event aimed at bringing people together in their support of breast cancer survivors. The theme is “Walk a mile in her shoes.” At the event, participants can walk or run on a track style relay for 10 hours in honor of their loved ones who have been affected by this disease. Participants can camp around the track, as well as, take part in additional fun activities
Proceeds from the “Kickin’ Cancer” Breast Cancer Walk will be used to assist Prout’s sister with medical treatment expenses and to provide breast cancer awareness to all women. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to local breast cancer survivors.
