The Harvey Canal Industrial Association recently announced that one of the winners of the Jean Schliem Scholarships is Miranda Aasen, daughter of Melissa Aasen and Michael Aasen of Belle Chasse. The winners are children of parents who are affiliated with HCIA member companies. Aasen will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Aasen graduated with honors from Belle Chasse High School. She was an active member of the school’s Beta Club and the Belle
Chasse Medical Academy. Miranda also participated in the Literary Rally; served as a volunteer for the Plaquemines Parish Animal Shelter and as a volunteer for Special Olympics. She will attend Louisiana State University in the fall where she will major in Pre-Nursing. Miranda’s mother, Melissa is employed by HCIA Member Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer, LLC.
“It is very rewarding to see the level of excellence these students achieve” said HCIA President Laurie Soileau. “All the applicants far exceeded our expectations when it came to extracurricular activities and volunteerism.”
The scholarship is named in honor of the late Jean Schliem, first Executive Director of the Harvey Canal Industrial Association.
The Harvey Canal Industrial Association serves companies who represent the industrial business strength of the West Bank. The association is dedicated to the improvement of the business climate of the Harvey Canal and the Intracoastal Waterway System.
HCIA works closely through the Education Committee to identify and establish a strong educational work force to meet the needs of its business companies.
