In a show of solidarity with the local community, Stolthaven New Orleans covered the cost of Phoenix High School’s girls and boys basketball teams warm up suits. To show their appreciation, members of the teams stopped by the terminal on December 16 to say thanks and invited Stolthaven staff to participate in “Stolthaven Night” at their game on December 17. Stolthaven would like to wish both teams good luck and hope they have a successful and winning season.

As Jean Miller, Director of the Belle Chasse nonprofit Fresh Breath of Life, reflected on the end of the first nine years of operation, she thought with fondness of the scores of supporters who donated time, talent, and funds over those years, but she is especially thankful in 2021 for the recent generous support of the Belle Chasse Rotary Club.

Sheriff Jerry Turlich and PPSO congratulates Deputy John Wigstrom, Deputy Nillyreth Liberato and Deputy Amber Campbell for graduating from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office Regional POST Academy on Wednesday, November 24. POST Academy Class 2021-34 consisted of 15 graduates from seven law enforcement agencies. At the conclusion of the 16-week academy, Deputy Campbell received the Physical Training Award and Deputy Liberato received the Sheep Dog Award. The Sheep Dog Award is only presented when the Training Academy Staff observes a recruit that display consistent positive attributes throughout the training period such as leadership, ability to excel intellectually and physically and the desire to succeed. Congratulations go out to Seth Billingsley for winning the 450c Nationals SX Championship at Gatorback Cycle Park in Alachua, Florida on November 24, 2021. Seth is sponsored by Team Sakai and was proud to represent Plaquemines Parish. He is the son of Micheal and Deanna Billingsley of Jesuit Bend.

November is the prime time to plant garlic in our area. Many gardeners are also home cooks, and garlic is a musthave in our kitchens. If you’ve got the time, row space, and patience, growing phenomenal garlic isn’t all that hard in our part of the world.

Now in it’s seventh year, the Hammond Research Station works to highlight easy to propagate plants that thrive in southern Louisiana’s gardens. What I love about Plants with Potential is that they are selected to be sharablethese are plants that are not patented by the big nurseries or large corporate plant breeders. There is no limit to their distribution, and all are selected because they add beauty and interest to the current selections of landscape material in Louisiana. And did I mention, they are easy to propagate? That is music to my ears - these are plants that I can make more of and share with my friends, family, and community.
