CASA volunteers attend CASA conferenceApr 20th, 2011 | By Terri Sercovich | Category: community
Five Plaquemines Parish CASA’s (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and one staff member recently attended the National CASA Conference in Chicago. While CASA of Plaquemines Parish is one of the smallest CASA programs in the state, they were able to send five of their eight advocates to the National Conference. While there, the advocates were able to attend training sessions on such topics as child development, abuse, neglect, parenting, challenges to children in foster care, and Louisiana Juvenile Courts. The advocates also had the opportunity to meet and network with 2,500 other CASA advocates from across the country.
CASA of Plaquemines Parish trains and supervises volunteers to advocate for Plaquemines Parish children when they are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. A new volunteer training class will start in early June at the Plaquemines Community C.A.R.E. Center. For more information, call Peggy Morris at 504.427.6361.
