Mandy Boaz, a seventh grade Belle Chasse Middle School Social Studies teacher, was recognized at the October School Board meeting.
Due to her outstanding work and commitment to her students, Boaz was presented with the American Petroleum Industry Chairman’s Award.
“I am honored to have been chosen for this award,” said Boaz. “It really means a lot to me.”
API/Delta has been committed to public education for over 25 years. In addition to the Teacher of the Year award, they have sponsored several educational programs from early childhood through College. This past spring, they awarded $20,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors as well as current college students pursuing a degree our industry. In fact, a recent graduate of Belle Chasse High School was award a $1,000 scholarship for LSU.
The selection criteria for Outstanding Educator includes commitment to teaching, resourcefulness, professional involvement and community service. The outstanding teacher model is one whose performance will positively impact students for the remainder of their lives.
It is no surprise to anyone who knows or works with Boaz that she was selected by API/Delta for this honor. Her application and the letters of recommendation gave the selection committee a clear vision of who she is— in and out of the classroom.
In addition to being an outstanding classroom teacher, Boaz was selected to represent her school as a Louisiana Teacher Leader, where she will work on transitioning her colleagues to Common Core State Standards. Additionally, her continued Professional Development includes some 22 programs and seminars that support best practices in teaching and learning. The list included subjects such as Literacy Design Collaborative Workshop; Comprehensive Curriculum Collaboration and Planning Workshop; Discipline with Dignity for Difficult Youth and Positive Behavior Support seminars.
Plaquemines Parish Schools and API/Delta were thrilled to recognize Mandy Boaz.
