BC psychic arrested on theft chargesJun 24th, 2013 | By Candace Griffin | Category: news
Fraudulent fortune-teller, Lecia Urich, was placed under arrest on June 11 by the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office as a fugitive, on an outstanding Kenner warrant.
The Kenner Police Department asked local authorities to arrest Urich at her 8931 Highway 23 residence in Belle Chasse, and prepare her for a transfer to the Kenner Police Department. Currently, both Departments are working together to investigate this case, and they are urging residents from both parishes to come forward if they feel they have been taken advantage of by Urich.
“People shouldn’t be embarrassed to come forward,” said Commander Eric Becnel of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office. “We need the public’s help.”
Urich has been living in Belle Chase for less than a year, but the Sheriff’s Department feels that she may have taken advantage of local residents.
Urich’s arrest was not her first run-in with the law. In 2006 she was given a two year suspended sentence and ordered to serve two years on probation for swindling multiple Jefferson Parish victims out of tens of thousands of dollars. Working from her Kenner parlor, Urich convinced victims to give her cash and in return she would vanish any curses or alleged illnesses that they might have had.
That same year Urich was also given a one year suspended sentence with one year of probation after she tried to scam a Slidell businesswoman out of $5,000. Urich told the woman that there was a curse on her, and she would die a horrible death if something were not done immediately. She told the woman that she would need to perform a ritual that would involve burying $5,000 in a cemetery, in order to help her. After this, the woman became highly suspicious and contacted the local authorities to help expose Urich as a scam artist.
After consulting with district attorneys, the police were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Urich and took her into custody for attempted theft. She served her sentence and had been residing and running “Mrs. Lisa’s Palm & Tarot Card Readings” in Belle Chasse, until her arrest June 11.
Victims of “Mrs. Lisa” are being urged to come forward and assist the local authorities with building a case against Urich.
If anyone has any information regarding Urich, or if they feel they have been victimized by Urich, they should not hesitate to contact the Plaquemines Parish Sherriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau at 504.392.1652.
