* Benefit Concert @ Fort JacksonBenefit Concert @ Fort Jackson

Country for the Coast FREE Benefit Concert at Fort Jackson National Country Artists and local Musicians Aim to Raise $150,000.00 A line up of national and local country musicians are joining together to put on a FREE concert to benefit fishermen and the wetlands. The concert, a result of the team efforts of Plaquemines Parish and Protect Our Coastline Foundation, will be held at Fort Jackson in Buras on Saturday, September 4, 2010. The artist lineup includes JAMIE O’NEAL, ANDY GRIGGS, JOE DIFFIE, DOUG STONE, Louisiana native and country star, SAMMY KERSHAW and local favorites, JO-EL SONNIER, MARK ADAM MILLER, DAVID ST. ROMAIN AND CHRISTIAN SERPAS AND GHOST TOWN. The event is free to the public and sponsors will be afforded an opportunity to visit with all of the performers. * Freshwater DiversionsFreshwater Diversions

presentation on Freshwater Diversions to the Plaquemines Parish Coastal Zone Advisory Board Committee on Wednesday, September 7 starting at 6:30 pm at the Permit Building in Belle Chasse (building by the ferry). The Caernorvan Freshwater Diversion running as high as 8000 cfs has already caused sufficient marsh damage which has resulted in an increase of a foot and a half of storm surge, as well as loss of oysters, etc. Current plans by the USACE to build a 35,000 cfs at Phoenix and up to 50,000 cfs at Mrytle Grove will more than sufficiently destroy the marsh on both sides of the Mississippi River and produce devastating hurricane destruction caused by increase storm surge as well as destroy our natural resources in Plaquemines Parish. The purpose of the presentation is to get the Plaquemines Parish Commission Council to pass a Resolution to terminate the planned Diversion at Phoenix and evaluate all large scale Diversions planned for Plaquemines Parish.

Plaquemines Community CARE Center is honored to have Dr. Froma Walsh visiting with us next Thursday, SEPTEMBER 9 at 3:00. She will be providing training and consultation concerning family resilience in the face of disaster, including knowledge on new best practices with resiliency. This opportunity will be very informative and inspiring for all. Please mark your calendars to attend! Dr. Walsh has authored many family therapy-related articles and books including Strengthening Family Resilience, Living Beyond Loss, and Spiritual Resources in Family Therapy. She speaks and consults internationally on resilience oriented professional training and practice.
