Belle Chasse Primary’s rock stars

Fourth grade students at Belle Chasse Primary recently had the opportunity to mine for gems and minerals in a Mobile Mine. Eager “rock stars” sifted through sand and soil to find amethyst, garnet, quartz and even gold…fool’s gold (pyrite).
After admiring their “stash,” the lessons continued in the classroom with the identification and classification of the minerals. Many headed for home with a quart-sized Ziplock bag of gems and minerals with aspirations of becoming a rock collector.
