The Plaquemines Parish Council declared November 8, 2012 as Bartol Taliancich
Day, in honor of former District 7 Councilman Bartol John Taliancich. Taliancich
and his late brother founded the Taliancich Oyster and Orange Company and
was a strong voice for commercial fisherman in South Plaquemines over the years.

He worked hard to see boat harbor and ship yard improvements made in the
area, often going to Baton Rouge and Washington D.C. to garner legislative support
for the industry.

“There was one unique quality he had; he said to me ‘The thing I want to do is to get along with everybody’,” said Councilman Stuart Guey, who served on the council with Taliancich. “And he did just that. That’s a quality we all need to have.”
