The Croatian community is very active from the young ladies who acted as hostess and greeter to party goers, to those of a more distinguished generation who enjoyed the music.
The Croatian American Society recently hosted the Adriatic Breeze on the River. It was a perfect October evening on the manicured grounds of the Woodland Plantation.
As the crowd gathered to taste imported Croatian wines, they were greeted by third generation young ladies who presented the guests with commemorative wine glasses used for the tasting.
Four unique wines were featured from different regions along the Adriatic Sea. The wine servers were third generation Croatian young men. The popular pastry Krustula were passed around by younger girls of Croatian descent.
Guests enjoyed fine cuisine prepared on the grill as well as a buffet in the dining room of the main house. Delicious homemade desserts were served on the grand porch as live Croatian music was performed by Damir Radov who came in from New York for the event. The plantation seemed to come to life as people danced on the porch and many sang the songs of their native land.
It was an evening of sipping and friendly mingling as the sun went down. The first Adriatic Breeze on the River was a delight for all and it is sure to become an annual gathering.
In other Plaquemines-Croation news, the Croatian Heritage Picnic that was scheduled for Nov. 13, has been canceled. Organizers have plans to hold it in the spring.
