WALMART 2012: continuance pushes date of the hearing into January 2012
Sep 28th, 2011 | By William Dilella | Category: top storyThe Court hearing scheduled last week between the Parish Government and Texas-based land developer Moretco was postponed.
The petition for injunction filed by Moretco back on April 18 had been scheduled for last Tuesday and Wednesday, September 20 and 21. However, before the two parties could meet in Court, a continuance was filed, which has pushed the date of the hearing into January of 2012.
The new dates for the injunctive hearing are now January 4, 5 and 6 at 10 a.m.
The debate over the 115,000 square-foot site shopping complex site, set to be developed by Moretco, has been on the docket for some time. Arguments between the developer and the Parish over a yet to be settled building application, and the subsequent laws that may effect that application, had the two parties negotiating earlier this year. But when negotiations fell through, Moretco filed and later re-filed its injunction, hoping that the Courts would recognize its permit application for the large shopping complex.
The complex is known to have a Walmart shopping center in its plans, and is to be located at Woodland Highway and Highway 23 in Belle Chasse.
The updated Court documents were issued by the Court on Friday, September 23, and updates will be forthcoming as they develop.
